RSVP
A guest says they RSVP'd but I see no response
What to check, step by step, when an RSVP response does not show up in the panel: publishing, deadlines, duplicate entries, and form limits.
The short answer: it is almost always one of four things - the page is not published, RSVP is closed, the deadline has passed, or the response was saved as a new entry next to the guest on your list. Work through the checks below in order; each takes seconds to verify in the panel.
1. Is the page published?
Go to Settings, the Publication & Access tab. The status must read Published. On a Draft page the form accepts nothing, and the guest sees RSVP is no longer available. Publishing is covered in the article about publishing and passwords.
2. Is RSVP open?
Open RSVP. At the top of the RSVP Configuration section it says RSVP Open or RSVP Closed. If it is closed, click Open RSVP and confirm. With RSVP closed, guests see the same message as on an unpublished page.
3. Has the RSVP Deadline passed?
Check the RSVP Deadline field on the RSVP page. After that date the form rejects new responses and the guest sees The RSVP deadline has passed. You can accept a late reply two ways: move the deadline later and ask the guest to try again, or enter it yourself - in the Guests tab open Edit guest and set the RSVP Status and meal.
4. Did the response save as a new, second entry?
This is the most common case where the form worked but you cannot see the response where you expect it. The form matches a response to your guest list primarily by email address. If the guest gave no email, or a different one than the address on your list, the response creates a new person, and your imported entry stays Pending. The group form additionally matches by first and last name, but only when exactly one person with that name is on the list and has not responded yet.
How to check:
- On the RSVP page, switch the filter from Responded to All.
- Look for a second entry with a similar surname, different spelling, or a typo - that is where the response landed.
- Clean up the duplicate in the Guests tab: copy the status and details onto the right guest and delete the extra entry. Adding emails to guests before sending invitations prevents this - see the article on adding guests.
5. Did the guest already respond earlier?
If the same email address has already submitted, the single-guest form rejects another attempt with You have already submitted your RSVP. So the response exists - you will find it on the guest in the Guests tab. Note: the group form does not reject in this situation; it may add a second entry instead - see point 4.
A guest who wants to correct their answer does not need to submit again. If they gave an email, we sent them an automatic message titled Your RSVP confirmation with a Review or edit RSVP button. They can also use the Already responded? box under the form on your page - we will resend the link. Self-service editing works until the date in RSVP edit deadline (default: 14 days before the wedding); after that, you make changes in the panel.
6. Were there too many people in the group form?
The form rejects a submission when the number of people exceeds the Max Guests per Invite setting - the guest then sees Too many guests for this invitation. You change this value (1 to 10) in the setup wizard, on the RSVP step at /admin/setup?step=rsvp. After raising the limit, ask the guest to try again. The rest of the form settings are covered in configuring RSVP.
7. Did the abuse protection kick in?
The form has safety limits: one browser can send up to 10 responses per hour. A guest filling in the form for several people from one phone may have seen Too many requests. Please wait a moment and try again. This is not an error - waiting up to an hour and retrying is enough.
Still nothing?
Ask the guest for the exact message they saw after tapping submit (ideally a screenshot). Every message above points straight at one item on this list. If the guest says they saw the thank-you screen and the response still is not on any entry under the All filter - write to us with the guest's name and the approximate time they submitted.
